BIRTHDAYS ANDGOOD-BYES " Although Caroline (Candice Accola) is in no mood to celebrate her18th birthday, Elena (Nina Dobrev),Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Matt (Zach Roerig) surprise her with a small partyin an unusual location.  Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) disagree on the best way to handle Klaus (JosephMorgan), and a reckless Stefan decides to test his theory by taking things todangerous extremes.  Bonnie is concernedwhen Elena tells her about Jeremys (Steven R. McQueen) new plans.  At a Founders meeting, Alaric once againruns into Dr. Fell (guest star Torrey Devitto), who is in the middle of anargument with her ex-boyfriend, the medical examiner (guest star David ColinSmith).  Tyler (Michael Trevino) refusesto go along with Klaus latest demand, and is surprised when Klaus seems toaccept his decision.  Wendey Stanzlerdirected the episode written by Rebecca Sonnenshine (#311).

SOME ENCHANTED EVENING " Elena (Nina Dobrev) is surprised to receive an invitationto a formal ball, and when Damon (Ian Somerhalder)and Stefan (Paul Wesley) hear theparty is being hosted at Klauss newly renovated mansion, they both insist onattending the event with her.  Caroline(Candice Accola) and Matt (ZachRoerig) also receive invitations to the ball from unexpected admirers.  At the elegant party, Elena learns of ahorrifying plan that could lead to numerous deaths and she must decide who shecan trust wither her new information. Caroline discovers a side of Klaus (Joseph Morgan) no one would havesuspected.  Finally, after an evening ofviolence and dashed hopes, Damon finds a new way to cope.  Chris Grismerdirected the episode written by Caroline Dries(#314).
